Helping the People of our Community
Building relationships lies at the core of our company philosophy:
relationships with our customers, our partners, our employees and
our community. In that spirit, we were excited to join Classic
Homes of Maryland in an extremely worthwhile community project.
The goal was to build a new home for the Jackson family of
Poolesville MD in less than seven days as part of ABC's Extreme
Makeover: Home Edition television show. When we heard the
Jackson family's story, we made a commitment that Hassle Free
Home Services would do what we could to help make this dream
a reality.
Our first thought was to offer what we do best: providing ongoing
maintenance and preventive repair services to the family. We met
with the builder and pledged a full year's worth of maintenance
service once the home was complete. But our commitment did
not stop there. When the builder called for help with the myriad
tasks required to complete a home, our staff and some of our
service partners offered up their time to help get the job done. We
are honored to have had the chance, both during the construction
and in the year to come, to help the Jackson family stay together
under one roof in a home they can call their own.
Meet the Jackson Family
Four years ago, Felicia Jackson made a promise on her sister's
deathbed to keep all 10 of her nieces and nephews together. Before
her sister Cassandra passed away with complications of cancer, she
told Felicia that she didn't want her children split up and Felicia is
making sure that will never happen. With that one act of kindness in
2004, Felicia went from being the mother of 4 to a single mother of
14. Felicia has been supporting all 14 children by working as a
security guard at a mall. Unable to afford and find permanent
housing, this family of 15 had been living in a hotel since December.
Felicia was told that if she doesn't find appropriate housing soon, she
will have to split the children up within the foster care system. With
the community behind her story and fight for self sufficiency, the
community deeded her a piece of land with a small 5 bedroom house
that needs major repairs. Felicia cannot afford these renovations
since she's raising and taking care of 14 growing children age ranging
from 4 to 18. Now it is up to Ty and the designers to make those
much needed repairs and help this courageous and loving mother
fulfill her sister's dying wish.
